How hot seat blackjack works
Hot seat is the oldest kind of multiplayer: one screen, a few friends, and turns. Here is a round from start to finish:
- Choose 2 or 3 players and type names (optional, up to 12 characters).
- Press Deal. Every seat stakes 10 points and gets two cards. The dealer gets one card.
- Seat 1 plays first. The active seat has a gold outline. Hit, stand or double, then hand over.
- The dealer finishes. After the last seat, the dealer takes a second card and draws to 17.
- Points are settled for each seat. The message line shows who leads.
Why not a proper online lobby? Honestly, because it would need accounts, servers and chat. We do not want your details, and school networks often block real-time chat sites anyway. One screen keeps it simple.
The rules at the multiplayer table
- 6 decks, reshuffled when the shoe runs low
- No hole card (the Australian way): the dealer's second card comes after all players act
- Dealer stands on all 17s
- Blackjack pays 3 to 2, a win pays 1 to 1, a tie is a push
- Double on 9, 10 or 11 only (first two cards)
- No splits in this mode (to keep turns quick)
- 500 practice points per player, 10 points per hand
Watch the no hole card rule. If the dealer turns over blackjack, every seat without blackjack loses, including any doubled stake. Think the player who doubled was unlucky? Not really. That is the risk you accept at an Aussie table.
Game ideas for friends
Blackjack is a solo game against the house, so you need a reason to compete. Here are four formats that work well:
- 20-round sprint. Most points after 20 rounds wins. Short, and luck evens out a little.
- Last seat standing. Keep dealing until only one player has points left.
- Strategy only. Everyone must play basic strategy. If a friend spots a wrong play, that player sits out the next round. Warm up first with our free blackjack trainer.
- Beat the dealer, not each other. Count how many rounds the whole table beats the dealer. Good for mixed ages.
Tips for a fair game
- Agree on the number of rounds before the first deal.
- No coaching during a turn. Talk strategy after the round.
- Rotate the first seat each game (swap the names in the seat boxes), so nobody always acts first.
- Press New game to reset everyone to 500 points.
In my experience the rotation rule matters most, because the last seat gets to watch everyone else's cards first. It does not change the maths, but it feels fairer.

Can I play blackjack online with friends here?
You can play with friends in the same room, on one device. Each player takes a turn and passes the screen on. There is no online matchmaking, no chat and no accounts.
Is there a 2 player blackjack mode?
Yes. Choose 2 players (or 3) above the table, type names if you like and press Deal. Each seat has its own points and its own hand against the same dealer.
Does multiplayer blackjack work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the cards are dealt inside your browser, so a dropped Wi-Fi connection does not stop the round. You need a connection to open the page the first time.
Can I split in multiplayer mode?
Not in this mode. We left splits out to keep turns short when you pass the device around. You can hit, stand or double on 9, 10 or 11. The single-player game on our home page has splits.
Is this real-money blackjack?
No. Everyone starts with 500 practice points. There is nothing to deposit, nothing to win and nothing to cash out.
Does it work at school or on a Chromebook?
It is the same lightweight HTML5 and JavaScript as our main game, so it usually opens where that one opens. Your school still sets the rules, so please respect a block if you hit one.
